The AASL is a division of the ALA and the only national professional membership organization for school librarians. This is an important source to help me stay up-to-date with national topics, issues, and events. I just became a member of this organization and look forward to the member benefits. The benefits include their journal Knowledge Quest; the Learning Library including webcasts and podcasts; and the member forum. I feel all of these will be very important sources of information for my library career.

The VAASL represents the state of Virginia at the ALA and AASL conferences. I became a member of VAASL in order to connect with other librarians in Virginia and specifically in my region. These connections will help me further my learning and growth in the field. I also like having a network of professionals in my state and region that are facing a lot of the same issues. Facing some of the same local issues enables us to have a better conversation about what we are experiencing.

School Librarians United Podcasts
School Librarians United. (2022). [Logo]. https://schoollibrariansunited.libsyn.com/
School Librarians United is a podcast about the everyday issues and challenges of running a successful school library. I think it is important to hear about what other school librarians are facing and how they deal with it. It seems to make it even more real when you hear someone tell it in their own voice. I will listen to these podcasts in the hope of learning tips on what to do right, what to avoid, and how to deal with challenges in order to run a successful school library.
