How can you tell if your computer is safe?

Computers are the center of daily life for multiple people in our current society. Thus, they hold sensitive data for not only corporations but also for the average person’s computer. Hackers see this sensitive data as a gold mine and target these computers. However where a corporation has various methods to protect itself from malware, data breaches, and other malicious hacking. The average person doesn’t have the knowledge of viruses and thus leads them to become more vulnerable victims. Because of this, the question that is posed “how can the average person tell if their computers are safe.” Hackers will use various methods in order to gain access to your computer. Because of this, to secure your computer, you have to check your computer from multiple angles. There are various ways to tell if your computer is safe. 

First, is a simple way is simply updating your browser login. For Chrome users, there is a new update login that reminds them to login into their browser. It gets redder and redder whenever it’s time to update it. Secondly is testing your firewall often. On mac and windows, they have pretty decent firewalls already. However, it wouldn’t hurt to use a port test service like PortTest scans. Many devices have anti-malware and quick scans as well, which will scan for malware or other malicious threats. There are many VPNs who will also perform these quick scans.  Lastly is keeping your files organized and clean while also making sure your trash isn’t full. Doing this allows your computer to be more efficient. There is also another method where users need to check their social media settings. On some social media, they will ask whether or not they can use your data which can put you or your computer at risk.
