Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

In our society, computers have now been ingrained into what we do and how we do tasks. Computers and technology, in general, make our society safer for all. However, for every benefit, we receive there is a disadvantage. 

First, when talking about benefits, computers have made a difference in the medical field and gave us considerable improvements in healthcare. One prime example is allowing for effective management of patients and staff. Computers with upgrades have significantly decreased the mistakes that a doctor could have made. It also allows medical students with the very best technology enabling them to get a more in-depth education. The second benefit of computers is dealing with convenience and accessibility for the disabled. People with disabilities can now safely order groceries or other products needed. Not only does this help stop unnecessary, dangerous ventures for people, and it helps to generate money for the economy. Lastly, Computers have significantly impacted the educational system. Students can research and teach themselves from home how far computers have advanced. Vast amounts of information are at the fingertips of students. Computers also played a significant role this past year during the pandemic crisis. Students were allowed to be got up with the school year academic plan so they wouldn’t have to repeat a year or worse. 

Computers have many disadvantages that can make our society less safe. The first disadvantage is that computers have made us have decreased privacy. People tend to put sensitive data on their computers in files. These files can be hacked and stolen easily. Since 2020, Apple lost millions of sensitive data to ransomware because Apple kept back up customers’ files on corporation servers. (Mehrotra, 2020) The second disadvantage is hacking has become much more dangerous and prominent. Because computers are used so often and cybersecurity is expensive many organizations being frequently hacked. This doesn’t only apply to corporations, but ransomware also affects hospital that heavily relies on computers. The last disadvantage is our over-reliance on computers.
