How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
In our current age, the temptation to commit workplace deviance is more present more than ever. Because cyber-security is so expensive, companies do not pay what they should to keep their consumers safe, making it very easy for employees to take advantage of their systems. This is otherwise known as Workplace deviance, which happens very often in the cyber technology field. It is defined as a deliberate or malicious attempt to sabotage an organization by causing workplace problems. Alternatively, they take advantage of their workplace position and use their organization’s technologies for their own benefits. There are various examples of workplace deviance in our current age. One example is employees abuse company property, such as using company vehicles for personal errands, damaging company equipment, and defacing their work area. Another example is some employees abusing working from home and padding out their timesheets. They do this in order to get paid more by their bosses. The last example is an employee who is being unproductive, leading to the company losing money.
However, in the cyber technology field, the first is the one that often happens, and it is when an employee is giving sensitive organization data to somewhere/someone else that is not in the organization in exchange for money. These issues happen a lot in companies that hold much sensitive information in places such as hospitals, banks, and cybersecurity firms. Another example that happens is that employees can abuse their abilities to spy on people via their technologies. The third example is that some employees, in order to avoid doing work, will fake the results of STIGS in order to get a personal laptop onto a secured organization’s network. The fourth example is that disgruntled employees could steal someone else’s information in order to commit cyber-crimes such as data breaching and hacking.
