In the modern world, cyber crime is a new and highly prevalent thing. As technology is growing and becoming more and more widespread in many devices, homes, and buildings, cyber crime is becoming more of an issue as cyber criminals are becoming more creative in their ways. Traditional crime, which falls under criminal justice, has been heightened to a whole new level with the addition of technology into everyday lives. Cyber crime has become more widespread and a bigger issue in the criminal justice world as technology has become more available to the general public and cyber criminals as well. With cyber crime falling under the larger area of criminal justice as a whole, that is where the overlap between criminal justice and cyber crime begins. Just as under a normal crime committed, the individual who is caught performing illegal activities will face penalties for their actions. Just as in cyber crime, the cyber criminals have to face consequences and penalties for their actions and breaking the law. Cyber crime does fall under the criminal justice system as cyber crime is still a crime and is illegal. Just because the crime is being committed through technology or over the internet does not make it any less illegal; cyber crime falls under the criminal justice system and those caught can face punishment. This overlap between cyber crime and criminal justice relates to what we have learned in this class as a whole which revolves around cyber security and limiting cyber crime and its effects. In this class we have learned about the growing increase in cyber crime and cyber attacks, this idea of cyber crime overlapping with criminal justice matches concepts we have learned in this class throughout the year about being aware of cyber attacks. The overlap between cyber crime and criminal justice relates to not just the consequences of the cyber attacker but the consequences of the individual who was the victim of the cyber attack. Overall, this ties into many topics we have talked about throughout the year such as potential hazards and consequences of cyber attacks.
