This first eportfolio entry is an interesting question for me. I am a freshman this year and currently am undecided on my major. With that being said, I am interested in a major in the business field and am considering economics and finance as two likely options. Cybersecurity is an important aspect in those fields because they deal with money and exchanging things of value. Cybercriminals target institutions and individuals that have things of value; the business field is the perfect target of cybercriminals. Financial institutions such as banks and companies deal with cyberattacks and need a strong cyber network to protect their money and their assets. The modern world we live in today is growing and becoming more dependent on technology and electronics to handle monetary transactions and business dealings. Businesses need cybersecurity and strong cyber networks now more than ever to prevent cyber attacks and cybercriminals from infringing on their business dealings. Besides just the fact that money and assets are transferred electronically, many businesses are adopting online models for selling. With companies such as eBay and Amazon transforming the world of online shopping, cybersecurity is needed to protect the integrity of the products. Cybersecurity also is important in the world of economics and the stock market. The stock market can fall victim to cybercriminals that attempt to manipulate stock prices and control the market. Without cybersecurity, the stock market and businesses would be very vulnerable to cyber attacks. There is also another avenue to approach this topic from. Cybersecurity also relates to the business field through investments and employment. Individuals can invest in cybersecurity stocks on the stock market. Cybersecurity companies also hire people in the business field to help with the business aspect of the company. While there are multiple relations between the business field and cybersecurity, cybersecurity technology is most important in the business field for protecting money and assets against cyber attacks and cybercriminals.
