Cryptography – PKI

Public-Key Infrastructure or PKI is a framework that enables the encryption of public keys and includes their affiliated crypto-mechanisms (appviewX, 2020). It is a very impressive and detailed framework, yet it is very expensive for groups to use. The U.S. federal government is able to use it extensively because they have the funds to use on purchasing and operating a PKI. This is also the reason that the utilization of PKI has not caught on in the business or commercial sectors. In my opinion, PKI has a promising future as technology advances and it becomes available to more organizations at lower costs. When comparing FIDO to PKI, I believe that it is a viable alternative to PKI technology for organizations. It seems to have the same benefits and technology as PKI at a lower cost, and it is already being used by multiple companies.
