In my opinion, one of the biggest security risks and challenges to Internet of Things (IoT) technology is the lack of encryption. Encryption is one of the easiest ways to prevent attacks and hacks from happening, and as stated in this article, “These devices lack the storage and processing capabilities that would be found on a traditional computer” (Lerner, 2019) . Without these important systems, these devices become vulnerable to hackers and their use of botnets. As we know, botnets are series of internet-connected devices that can be used in all manner of cyber attacks. Unencrypted IoT devices become easy targets for hackers to use in botnet attacks.
