Internship

Reflection Paper #1

During my first 50 hours working in the IT department at the College of William and Mary, I was given an idea of my basic duties and responsibilities. After filling out paperwork, obtaining keys, and obtaining my ID card and administrative access, I worked on a few different tasks between the two offices. I was given the office that I utilized, as well as the room next door that belonged to my mentor Rick Dodd. Rick had taught me about the day-to-day activities of the job and the procedures I use for certain tasks.

I was taught quite a few things during the first few weeks, including how to utilize some of the equipment available and how to wipe and image computers. I had spent a large portion of my time wiping old technology that was retired from the system and imaging new computers that were soon shipped to various people and groups around the campus. Besides those activities, I spent my time getting to know my colleagues who taught me a little bit about what they do and showed me their daily duties.
