IT Director Paper

For this assignment, I have chosen the IT Director job. After researching IT Director job ads on the internet, I found five suitable websites to utilize for this assignment. The five websites in question are Creative Financial Staffing, Indeed, Richmond Public Schools, Hard Rock, and The US Oncology Network.

The job ads for the IT Director position had shown very similar duties and responsibilities with a few differences depending on the company in question. These duties include: creating an annual budget for the IT department, supervising/mentoring others, handling customers, leading and managing the staff, creating plans for upgrades for various areas of the department, and other various responsibilities. The duties shown in the ads do differ as one of them is for a public school system, another is for a hotel/casino, and one is for a medical network company that specializes in local cancer care.

All of the above job ads had similar qualifications or requirements for the IT Director position, with a few differences. Two of the job ads had been posted requiring at least a master’s degree, two others requiring at least a bachelor’s degree, while the last one did not require a degree. They all required various minimum years of experience, some of that experience for the job itself while others for the managerial experience or with a certain software/hardware. For the Hard Rock Hotels, you also need to have and maintain all licenses or certifications legally required by the Federal Government, State Government, and Virginia Lottery in regard to working in a casino (Hard Rock Hotels).

While two of the job ads did not have their salaries posted, the other three had quite high salaries listed. Creative Financial Staffing’s ad posted an IT Director’s salary between $90,000 and $125,000 (CFS, 2020). Indeed’s ad for Endurance IT had listed an IT Director’s salary between $75,607 and $130,815 a year (Endurance IT). The Richmond Public Schools’ ad for an IT Director had listed a salary between $100,970 and $171,957 per year (Richmond Public Schools). There wasn’t any clear indication of what was needed to get the higher end of any of these payment scales. My best hypothesis is that a higher degree and more previous work experience would lead to the higher end of the payment scale.

After going over everything that I read, I have learned a lot about what is expected of an IT Director and what it takes to get the position. Just about all of the companies require a degree in a related field and a mixed number of minimum years of experience in the field. Working with others, managerial or leadership experience, extensive knowledge of the subject matter, and other elements are required to even apply for this position at any of the companies. They all provide similar duties and responsibilities that an IT Director needs to follow with a few minor differences. From the salaries that were posted on the job ads, the Richmond Public Schools seem to pay the most as it is part of the local government.
