I’m slowly closing the door on my first semester as a college student, and looking back I can honestly say that I have grown both personally as well as academically. Coming here to ODU to start this new chapter in life was exciting and at the same time very overwhelming, but the stuff I’ve been through I have learnt more than I ever imagined I would.

Balance and time management were some of the most important lessons I’ve learned. Pursing all classes and assignments, complete with extracurriculars and personal responsibilities was never easy, but it gave me the extra push to do my work and stay organized. But in doing so, these skills haven’t just kept me on track academically, they’ve also allowed me to fit in self care and create relationships with others.

A major part of my growth this semester has been contributing to the campus community. I’ve begun to feel like I’m part of a community by participating in things like [a specific event you enjoyed, like the soccer fundraiser] and connecting with that person I associate with at school, or with my professors. These experiences have helped me feel more at home and evidenced the power of finding my people — my people who support me, supplement me, and hold my hand along the way.

This semester has really taught me to step out of the box, accept classes that I don’t usually take, and take on challenges acadically. I learned about [certain things related to your major, e.g., biomechanics, human anatomy, etc.], that I am extremely interested in, and want more than anything, to pursue my passion of being a physical therapist. There were moments of self doubt, but something from my peers and my professors would remind me that these are not the only goals worth pursuing and keep me pressing forward towards my goals.

looking back at my accomplishments and learn that I am becoming the person I am today. I know that this won’t be the end of my college experience, but I’m ready to put all that I have learned this semester to use. I made my peace with the fact that no matter what, I will keep forging relationships, continue to grow and excel in my studie, ando chase the next opportunity with confidence and determination.
