Study Habits
The amount of time I use to study weekly for each class probably about a total of six hours. I feel that I need to spend more time studying for my chemistry and my sociology class mainly because they are the two classes that my grades are lowest in. I tried studying in my room for the most part but I was not as successful as I would have liked due to the fact that there are constant distractions of noise and etc. I could eliminate the noise problem by just going to the library to do my studying so that there will be less chances of distractions. I normally study at night before I go to sleep but I feel I am not as focused because I am laying down while studying.
Learning style
The specific methods I think works best for me is when I study the power points that were presented previously in class. This technique varies from class to class because from some classes that don’t provide powerpoints i just go online and study on the topic. The new study techniques that I have tried and learned best through is studying with a group of my peers. Another skill I have tried is to take notes, while doing this making sure the notes are organized and understandable. I am also beginning to to work on my concentration skills also by making sure I get more sleep so that I can be attentive.
Transition to college
College has been what I expected and more,this is because I expected it to be difficult but i was unaware of just how much more the workload would be. The level of difficulty is not even the problem for me which is surprising, the pace of which i am being taught is where the challenge is for me.Living on campus has been a little different only, the most difficult thing for me is I am was not used to having to leave and go out to find something to eat when I am hungry. The easiest transition for me to overcome is the amount of walking I have to do to get around campus. I don’t really see a problem with it because it is something all the students attending the school is required to do in order to get around campus.
Connecting to campus
One problem I encountered this semester is when i did not know how to make my E-portfolio public to my teacher even after reading the instructions and thought he would be able to see it because I had gotten assistance from my peers. I should not have done this because it cost me a good grade, I believe this is something simple that i can fix by starting work earlier so that if there is confusion I can seek the proper help. My advisor Mr.Thomas has played a big role in helping me plan accordingly as to what i need to do to better my chances of success as a student. I attended two meetings for (ASA) African Student Association to give me a chance to interact with people who have similar backgrounds as myself.
