How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?

Cybertechnology has created opportunities for workplace deviance because they are trusted with sensitive material. The worker could make a simple mistake that could cause a leak in the system or something of the sort which could be seen as an accidental act of deviance because they were not careful enough with what they were doing. As stated in the lecture for workers and cybersecurity, it is brought up that some companies may send out fake phishing emails to their employees to see if they click it. If they click it, the employee will get called in and be lectured or fired. Even if they get away with it, what would happen if they click on an actual phishing scam? They could place the company and its information in danger and it would not be good for anyone.

White-collar cybercrime is a term for when people commit a cybercrime at their workplace, specifically using computers to commit these crimes. The workers in the cybersecurity realm mostly work with computers and have a lot or some authorized access to information. Depending on the role/job the employee has, they could possibly use their status and take whatever information they can and use it for malicious reasons such as selling it to other companies or any type of scammer/hacker.

Workplace deviance could come from many motivations whether it’s for money or out of pure anger, it could be anything. Brought up in the lecture, some believe that leaders of the workplace should let their employees get away with little things so they do not end up going to bigger acts of deviance. I see that as a way for workers to allow their emotions to mellow away instead of having them become bottled up to the point where they might do something drastic to the company. One possible example I can think up could be an employee getting fed up with their hours so they might be careless with their work so they just speed through it and not take proper precautions.

Overall, workplace deviance in the cyber place can have many forms and outcomes and they should all be taken care of.
