About Monarch Racing

The Story Behind Our Student Club

We are a college level formula racing team that is fully ran by students at Old Dominion University. Our goal as student engineers is to collaborate, design, and manufacture a formula car that is safe and reliable to drive. We are able to use the information that we learn from class and directly apply it for real world problems.
We are able to produce a vehicle and then go to competition in May for an international event that is held by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). This event consists of multiple categories that range from static events to dynamic events. In May of 2023 we placed 69th out of 120 teams. In the next event we are aiming to finish in the top half of all competitors

What is Formula SAE

Formula SAE is a design competition that is organized by SAE International. Every two years we design, build, test, and travel to Michigan International Speedway where the competition is held. With every vehicle we design, we take into consideration the rules and find innovative ways to improve the vehicle's performance.
The competition is divided into static and dynamic events.
Static events: Cost, Presentation, and Design
Dynamic events: Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross, Endurance, and Efficiency.
