Journals

Over the course of the semester we were would receive a journal each week to complete. We are ask to give a brief summary of 2-3 sentences about the podcast and our opinion of the podcast. the journal must have a minimum of 150 words.

Journal 1: Can you see their viewpoint? Nike Ad

As I researched more into the Nike ad and looking at others point of views I see that I feel a lot differently about this than others. All the reviews I’ve read many people find that Nike has truly messed up by putting Colin Kaepernick the face of the video. Many have gone far enough to say that since the included him in the video they ar3e going to boycott and no longer buying from Nike. Now I can see where these people are coming from being that Colin is seen in the negative eye by a lot of people, I personally love the ad. I feel that it had a powerful message behind it and using him as like the main voice for me it added feeling to it. He can really talk about risking it all for something you strongly believe in because that is exactly what he did. I realized that me and a lot of other people don’t really see eye to eye on this situation but Nike really did a fantastic job visual and using people stories, also using him as the voice for Nike

Journal 3: Can You Spot The Fastest “Real” News?

I decide to do an article about called “Puerto Rico Crisis; San Juan Mayor Pleads for Federal Aid; Trump Hit back” I choose this article because when I was looking no other article stood out at me like this one did. Plus usually all articles about Trump are crazy. I considered this to have so many fake news attributes because one the mayor under reports how much aid has been given to them, there is no reference to the corrupt government that Puerto Rico actually is under, and it was only written to make America seem like the enemy of Puerto Rico. While, yes, there are problems with how mainland America treats Puerto Rico, we do not deliberately disregard them because they are a US territory. There is another side of this story that NBC news isn’t telling because they know that it would support Trump which is not the agenda they follow. All the news want to do is make America look like we have no respect for other countries when on the contrary America offers aid to any country in need.

Journal 4: Experience Racism/Sexism

My mother and I love to shop. One day we decided to go to Nordstrom’s during the Christmas holiday season. We were walking around looking at boots and thought we were being followed but continued looking. Once we finished and we headed to the clothing section, my mother noticed the Caucasian lady was following us. She said, to me “this lady must think we are going to steal something.” After a while my mom starts getting irritated then I figured it was time to go by then. As we leave the store I felt like something was wrong with me, like I had done something wrong even though I didn’t. I asked my mom why do people treat us the way they do? Eventually she said, “I don’t know.” But as I got older still to this today that still happens to many African Americans and I still wonder why people still discriminate by, the way we look, our age, or even sex. But I guess the world may never know.

Journal 5: The Daily Response 10/19 – 10/26

The summary of this podcast is about Democrats and the Republican are ignoring the Latino population who are and aren’t eligible to vote. Latinos votes really matters when it comes to midterms and they fail to realize that. I thought this podcast was really informative because I realize that both parties rarely target the Latino population, and I wonder why? It surprises me that Latino vote really matter although I know all votes count when it comes to midterms election and Presidential elections. When it comes the Democrat party they have the greater chance of getting the Latino vote. I absolutely agree with this podcast because when you’re trying to get someones vote that person or group shouldn’t feel left out. The most interesting part of the podcast is 60% of Latinos have not been contacted by any campaigns and I think that ridiculous. I never knew how much of the Latino votes mattered before listening to the podcast.

Journal 6:Daily Response 10/29 – 11/2

In this podcast the 2016 presidential election had an issue dealing with the polls. They had two issues with this election. One being they were certain that Hillary Clinton was going to win this election. Second they had communication problems using pre-election poll to cast the votes. They talk about. differences between live polling and traditional polling.

I think sometimes raged. Polls are to record opinions or vote of. In the 2016 President Election the election was very close. As the daily mentioned “traditionally the result of. The polls are concluded.” In the presidential election. They’ve tried live polling which shows a. list of dots they tried to call to figure out if they voted for Democrat, Republican, or Undecided. I believe polls are staged meaning I think they already know who’s going to win the election before the votes come in. What I didn’t know was they had communication issue with the polls in this election.

Journal 7: Daily Response 11/5 – 11/9

Two groups helped President Trump get elected into office in 2016 white women and evangelicals. Now that he’s in office white women has turned away from his party. Although the white women are turning the evangelical women are still sticking with the Republican Donald Trump.

The Evangelical women thought that being a democrat was horrible because they were raised up that they should always vote for Republican. They think Republicans are going to protect the unborn children. I believe anyone who in office as President has no control over if their child is going to be protected or not. I never realize or even thought of how important it is that Evangelicals did vote for Republican. A woman by the name of Tess Clarke who is an Evangelical Christian is planning to vote for a democrat. After listen to her story and this. podcast many women feel that the President policies conflicts with their faith.

Journal 8: SYSK Response or Daily 11/13 -11/20

In 2016 is where it all started after the presidential election. New York times investigated Facebook leaders because they tried to cover up the problems they were having.

The company was having a problem with the fake news, but Mark Zuckerberg was saying that it wasn’t a big deal and his own employees didn’t believe that. The people that worked under him saw that Russia was moving differently and it raised suspicion naturally they dug deeper and found more. After everything was found it was time to tell Mark and his staff what was going on in their company. Now it was a little too late for this because the people that worked under him had already told the news about the situation. The bosses were furious they felt as if the people that worked for them had through them under the bus, this caused big problems in the company. This entire situation the Russia putting out the fake news and people feeling as if their data wasn’t protected made it seem as if Facebook couldn’t keep their stuff secure causing people to stop using Facebook or limit the amount of stuff they could use. This caused another big problem for Facebook because they started to lose lots of money billions of dollars at that. Facebook has now tried to correct the problem by putting more money into keeping people’s information protected, trying to cut down on fake news, and giving people piece of mind so that they won’t leave Facebook. This podcast was very informationally it showed me how a big-time app like Facebook has its underlined problems that they don’t want people to know. Being that I don’t really get on Facebook like I used to. I would’ve never known about this problem if not for this podcast.

Journal 9:Memoir Reflection

After rereading and thinking long and hard I could have used more imagery when I talked about the emergency room.  For example, I could have said as I waited for the doctor in a room with four white walls sitting on the hospital bed looking at the clock ticking. I could hear pen drop it was so quiet, but the doctor finally came in. Also, I could give a description of the doctor instead of saying the doctor I should have used the tall, blue eyed, Caucasian women with a white lab coat on enter the room with a worried look on her face I knew right then there was bad news. I could have explained in more detail about how I felt during this process that I never thought I will ever go through. After finding out I had endometriosis I knew my life would change forever because it had no cure. Lastly, I could have described in more detail when my mother took me to Olive Garden.

Journal 10: Best and Worst

As my first semester of college comes to an end I look back at all the assignments you have given. One particular assignment was the worst for me the Rhetorical Analysis. This assignment was definitely stressful because I didn’t know anything writing a rhetorical or how to start it. Also, I was rushing because the deadline was approaching a lot faster than I thought. I can’t say that my first semester was the worst although it full of many assignments due all at the same time. The best of this semester was meeting new people and experiencing the “adult life.” As a freshman in college this semester presented me with a lot off new challenges it also gave me room to grow as a person and becoming a young adult. My mom always told me that college is nothing like high school, she was right. Although, becoming an adult is challenging it has many advantages. I hope as I continue at Old Dominion University I will continue to grow as a person and to meet new people.

Optional/ Make -up Journal 2:

The summary of this podcast is the navy i8is using dolphins to detect unexpected underwater ocean sea mines. The reason Navy and other countries use the dolphins is because of no technology can detect the mine in the water. Dolphins are trained to. Be able to find and report back to people. Dolphins are able to use sonar to locate these mines.

After listening to this podcast and hearing how the Navy and other countries use dolphins. To find unexpected bombs. I think it’s a smart idea because as of right now our technology is not that advanced enough to detect sea mines deep and murky water. I believe dolphins are more equipped then us humans. The way dolphins are able to use their echo location making them the best and only option for getting this specific task done. Without dolphins. We would never been able to detect unexpected underwater sea mines.
