Reflection

Dear Carrie Emerson-Coyle,

As the Fall the semester is coming to an end, I’m starting to reflect on Mrs. Emerson 110C English class. Throughout, the course of this semester I have made many accomplishments with improving my grammar and punctuation. When taking this course, it came with challenges especially the Rhetorical Analysis. The feeling of accomplishing papers was a big stress reliever for me because I would procrastinate. This class has taught me composing multiple forms of writing to understand the varieties of genre. I found your composition class to be very enlighten and hopefully I will be able to take another English class with you to further my success in your class.

Throughout the course of the semester, I learned numerous of new writing skills, such as developing the knowledge of conventions abilities. Before starting your class, I was an average writer, but as this this semester ends, I feel that I have improved with my grammar, punctuation, and when writing my papers then before. Using my communication skills, I was able to take people critics during peer reviews. The experiences that I learned from taking this class and everything else I experienced this semester is that everything needs its own time to get achieved and its highest level. I’ve also learned how to assist the situation and problems put out in front of me and overcome them, just as I’ve done many times through this first semester of college. Lastly, this class has helped me in the student organization “TRUST” is helping me find the words to express my opinion or ideas on things.

One of the many classes I’m taking that mostly connects with what I learned is Public Speaking. This class as also showed me that I was assigned to write my own speech to present to the class. I’m not a big fan of speaking in front of people so I decided to put my creative skills into writing. Any other part of my life that this class and public speaking has helped me with my communication skills and being able to talk in front of people without being nervous. From peer reviews to speeches, I had no choice but to become better with talking to a crowd, and not being afraid of getting laughed at for mispronouncing a word, or just simple as what I was wearing. I can say I have gained my confidence through expressing myself on paper and through my mouth.

Being a Business major, I can use the abilities I learned from your class in many different aspects of my life. Looking at the experiences I had throughout the class I saw the difference on how it changed me in this institution, from now on I will hopefully write amazing papers. Also, to express my idea out on paper and not to procrastinate. When it comes down to helping me outside of this institution, and me becoming a better writer in the class helps make my vocabulary more extensive and I’ll be able to conversate with different people. I could go from talking to my friends at my house to hopefully giving a presentation to a big company I work at. This class made that easier for me to achieve by challenging myself to use words with more meaning and not just a common word we use every day. Without having this class testing my abilities I t would be hard figuring it out on my own.

Throughout the course of the semester, I have done a digital archive. I went to a place called the Handsome Biscuit to do a food review. I decided to take a photo of the biscuit I had, which was called the Shorty Evans. To my disappointment I was displeased with the food, although the service was excellent. The last assignment for the semester in English was to upload all of our papers and journals to word press. Word press is a website that I can use for framework for web development. As continue to go by I will hope to see big changes in my writing as I progress in the years to come.

When taking this course, I had to face my challenges that occurred in this semester. Being a freshman in college and trying to adjust was first of many challenges. Midterms was beginning to approach and I choose to analyze an advertisement about the ASPSA. Well after receiving a low grade I was devastated I felt like my world was crashing down on me. I told myself don’t give up and try again with the next paper. The Rhetorical Analysis paper was similar to the midterm. I thought to myself, I’m going to get a better grade on this paper. When I received the paper back, I felt like quitting, but I was told to never give up. Then, I thought back to when I was in high school using the Rhetorical elements wasn’t really my strong suit. That’s not going to stop me from accomplishing and achieving an assignment just because I not excellence at something. Another challenge I had doing this semester was procrastination. I would wait. To the last possible minute to do an assignment to only stress myself out for no reason. I’m determined to get a C or higher before the semester is over.

Sincerely,

Tayana Montague
