In today’s age, technology is constantly evolving. Almost everything used is a technological device; businesses, government corporations, medical settings, and education settings all use technology. With the use of technology, it is important to know that the systems and devices used are protected. Knowing that your system and device is protected from any outside invaders/unwanted users is essential, the risk of having an unprotected system could lead to being under a cyberattack where hackers who have malicious intentions will breach your system and still confidential information or even place a malware on your device.
Diving deeper and focusing on cybersecurity on businesses, it is extremely important that businesses have the proper precautions set into place in order to protect their network from a Cyberattack. Many consumers and investors rely on businesses and most times these businesses are holding confidential information, we the people are trusting these business to keep our information secure. If you all can remember, in May 2021 the Colonial Pipeline was shut down due to their company being under a cyber attack millions of dollars and important information was lost due to this attack. The question that can arise from this is, “did the company have the proper steps set into place that could’ve potentially stopped this attack?”. Attacks like these are reasons why it is essential to have a cybersecurity program in a business.
One could argue that the most important reason for developing a cyber program is the protection of you business. Having a program that is constantly monitoring and applying updates towards your system will ultimately reduce the number of potential breeches and attacks. Another reason is staying up-to-date with the current rules and regulation of the law. In most cases, it is not required by the law that businesses have a cyber program. Knowing that your company is following the proper regulation is important.
The most important cost of developing a cyber program is the cost to develop the program. Developing a cyber program is an expensive task, from building the software, to hiring qualified individuals all of this will begin to add up creating a very expensive tasks at hand. Another costs could be the time, in order to build a secure system, this requires lots of time; time for testing and time for employee training. Also by taking this time it is unfortunate that your network will still be susceptible to an attack while your program is being developed.
