The criminal justice system has been a system that has been set into place for hundreds of years. This system responds to crimes and enforces laws. Consisting of lawmakers, law enforcement, the court system and etc. If you notice, most of these crimes that the criminal justice system enforces are in person. Cybercrime is the act of committing a crime over the internet, computer systems, and the cyber world as a whole. In this world that we live in, as we continue to grow in technology, so will the number of cybercrimes meaning that the Criminal Justice System will need to get involved more. However, this time things are different because we are now combating a sector that is unfamiliar; combating crime within the cyber world. This is a whole new world of crime to focus on, so the overlap between the cyber world and the Criminal Justice System will continue to grow. Just like most crimes, crimes within the cyber world are also evolving, meaning that people are thinking of more complex ways so that they aren’t getting caught. Along with crime, there are also many different types of cybercrime, from entering illegal websites, downloading illegal files, and unauthorized access to systems; all of these are the different ways a person can commit a cybercrime. Also, just with crime, although many may be committing such unlaw acts, only a select few will get caught for their acts. One way we can relate cybercrime to what we’ve learned in class is with systems engineering. Whenever engineers are designing networks and systems, they have it in the back of their heads to implement their own security measures and protections so that hackers will not be able to easily obtain their information, just like how a person might get a security system to limit the chances of a break-in within their home.
