Journal Entry #13

When I think about the game of drawing straws, no one likes to draw the short straw. The short straw means that you have lost, so I can just imagine having the “short arm” of predictive knowledge. The short arm refers to not being able to predict all potential future threats; this also means that every decision made must be critically made, as there is no way to evaluate the outcome until the results have been presented. Knowing this information, we must take the development of cyber-policy and infrastructure very seriously. Having well-developed policies and infrastructures will help us know what to do in the event of a cyber-attack/breach. Although we might not be able to predict every outcome, we must still move as if we know every potential outcome that could happen. Even though we may not know everything, being prepared will go a long way on its own.

In order to develop, there will need to be a big investment in cybersecurity tech (hence the reason for Cybersecurity being a growing job field in this world). Make sure the latest firewalls and intrusion detection systems are set in place. Making sure that employees are properly trained (something very essential, employees will need to know how to function in a crisis). Every day technology evolves, this means that as we are developing and implementing it will not be a one-and-done thing. These techniques will need to be constantly updated and up to standards. Take for example, Artificial Intelligence; in the later 2022 and 2023, it seems AI technology has made a jump in the world, AI-generated pictures, music using an artist’s voice, and so much more. Some may use AI for good, and others may use it for bad; due to this, we must be prepared for the misuse of AI tech and attack. If you think about it, you will never be caught by surprise.
