Dream Job…

Find Your Dream Job (100 Points)

Let’s find your dream job! You will do research to find your dream job in the health field and what type of education and skills you will need to get this job. The purpose of this activity is to help you gain a better understanding of how your intended major, future education goals, and skills need to be applied to the career you want. You will be expected to discuss this in class and it will be included on your ePortfolio.

Research – 50 points

  1. List your dream job or jobs.  In a perfect world, one day you will be ___Physical Therapist___.  Briefly describe what you’ll do in this role. What knowledge, skills, or abilities do you think you will need for this job?

I would like to work with pediatrics and to be even more specific with athletes. I will definitely need good communication skills because I will be constantly working with people. Have a good way to communicate with kids because you can’t treat them like adults because they aren’t on that mental level as adults or elderly. I will have to get my undergraduate degree in 2028 or earlier depending on how I do in my classes. After I graduate I will apply to the physical therapy grad program and hopefully get in. After three years of that I will graduate and take a certification so I can be a certified physical therapy. Then my final end goal is to work with CHKD. I don’t know location wise it just depends on where the money takes me because I don’t mind moving from my hometown for a job.

Part 2: Apply to your Dream Job –  50 points

  1. Think about the job postings you submitted for Part 1, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities you’ll need.  Did these jobs match what you had in mind for your dream job? Did you find your dream job? Describe the similarities and differences.

Yes, these jobs matched what I had in mind. If it’s not the exact company I want to work for but it’s ok as long as it is with kids that is the major thing that I am looking for. I knew that physical therapy was going to be hard so I knew that there were going to be a lot of steps to get the job in the first place. It has also helped me with all the guest speakers that I have had to know what is coming up in the future and that I am not getting thrown off when I get into my major more.

  1. From the 3 job postings you found, choose one job you want the most, and use the list of skills required for the job of interest. Identify skills you already have and identify skills you are still building or need more experience performing. Discuss options to sharpen or learn the skills you will need to gain.

Out of all the job postings that I found I would have to say to go with the first job description. I do like how much they are paying. I do say that it has a strong pull on me. Also Virginia Beach is close enough to home that I don’t feel so far away but enough to feel independent. The only skill that I could mark off is that I am CPR certified. I do need to go back and get it redone because my two years are probably almost over. Everything else I am working on getting because I can’t do anything because I don’t have the credentials to even try to get that licensure.
