Like Lisa Gittelman, whose work we adore (especially her Always Already New: Media, History, and the Data of Culture<\/a><\/em> MIT, 2006) we stand by Geert Lovink’s formulation that \u201cMedia archaeology is first and foremost a methodology, a hermeneutic reading of the \u2018new\u2019 against the grain of the past, rather than a telling of the histories of technologies from past to present.\u201d And, along with Lori Emerson, whose pioneering Media Archaeology Lab<\/a> has inspired so much of what we do, we are fascinated by the ways in which old and new technology coexists.
