Dr. Margaret Kilcline (Konkol)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director of mpark<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a dedicated digital humanist and scholar, Dr. Kilcline has been instrumental in shaping mpark\u2019s mission and initiatives. Her work focuses on the intersection of social and environmental issues related to technology and has inspired projects and collaborations within mpark. She is the co-editor of Modernism in the Green: Public Greens in Modern Literature and Culture<\/em>. Her work can be found in Hybrid Pedagogy, Paideuma, Modernism\/Modernity, Feminist Modernist Studies, Textus, and elsewhere. For her, the language around technology is not just about the latest bell and whistle; it is social action\u2014for good or for ill\u2014that helps configure humans in time and space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ola Swatek<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interim Director of mpark<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Swatek is a writing studies researcher who is passionate about the interactions between digital humanities and social science research. Her international collaborations focus on how technology can make learning more accessible and equitable, without overlooking the exclusionary nature of technological access. Her research has appeared in Writing Analytics<\/em>, System<\/em>, L2 Journal<\/em>, and World Englishes<\/em>. At ODU, she teaches courses in the professional writing and general education programs. As the interim director of mpark, she hopes to engage undergraduate and graduate students in workshops on visualizing language and data and continue the mission set by Dr. Kilcline (Konkol).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Xianzhong Meng<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate Assistant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xianzhong Meng is a second-year PhD student in the Department of English at Old Dominion University. His research focuses on corpus analysis, with a particular interest in discourse analysis in Traditional Chinese Medicine. As the mpark Graduate Assistant for the fall semester, he is learning to work with modern digital technologies, including 3D printing and laser cutting, while also organizing calligraphy sessions and craft workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

Bridget Dolan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

mpark Fellow<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bridget Dolan is a PhD student at Old Dominion University, studying Creative Writing as well as Literature and Cultural Studies. She received her MFA in poetry in 2024, and she has published one full-length collection of poems, Dust to Dust<\/em>. In the English Department, she has worked as a GTA teaching both 110 and 211, and she currently serves as the Internship Coordinator. Bridget has practiced making for over twenty years, from the time her mother first taught her to crochet; her expertise lies in fiber arts and chapbook making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Chunyu Hu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PhD Student, Computer Science<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chunyu Hu is a PhD student in computer science whose work explores AI security and complex physics modeling. At mpark, he is interested in how critical making and interdisciplinary collaboration can open new ways of thinking about technology, research, and everyday problem-solving. Outside the lab, Chunyu enjoys studying Chinese history\u2014especially the Tang and Song periods\u2014gaming on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, and documenting the realities of doctoral life through vlogging.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

Jitao Xu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jitao Xu is a PhD student in computer science at Old Dominion University. His research focuses on machine learning and generative models for scientific applications, particularly in physics, where he develops AI-driven approaches to address complex real-world challenges. At mpark, he is excited to connect computational research with hands-on experimentation and collaborative making. Outside of research, Jitao enjoys sports and staying active, believing that physical fitness supports focus, discipline, and creativity in both academic and creative work.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

Emily Dubicke<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily Dubicke is a senior at Old Dominion University studying Technical Writing with a minor in Political & Legal Studies. Her academic interests include Critical Theory, Philosophy of Law and Technology, Marxist Feminist thought, and nonfiction writing. As a non-traditional student, Emily brings a sociological perspective to the relationship between the humanities and STEM and is interested in how third spaces such as mpark can foster interdisciplinary collaboration. At mpark, she is interested in exploring critical making, digital humanities, and creative approaches to connecting technology and the humanities. Outside of school, Emily enjoys video games, reading, taking walks, and riding her motorcycle.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

Graduate Assistant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

T Cruz was a first-year PhD student in the Department of English at Old Dominion University. Their academic interests include creative writing, rhetoric and composition, and the intersection of race, religion, and gender in literature. As an mpark Graduate Assistant for the fall 2025 semester, T explored digital humanities through laser cutting and cross-stitching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher Giofreda<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christopher Giofreda was a doctoral student at ODU interested in rhetoric, dialectic, and logic. He believed that a digital humanities maker space has a poetic sensibility in that users can render abstract concepts through the particulars they produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elena Knudsen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elena Knudsen was an MFA student, writer of fantasy, and computer scientist. She worked on a series of videos for mpark’s online offerings that helped make coding more accessible for the humanities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamaya Williams<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamaya Williams is a PhD student at Old Dominion University studying Literary and Cultural Studies and Rhetoric, Writing and Discourse Studies. Working with mpark provides her with an opportunity to learn more about digital humanities and how hands-on making encourages idea generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily Ivey<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily Ivey is a PhD student at ODU studying Rhetoric, Writing, and Discourse Studies and Technology and Media Studies.
