Cyber-attacks have been an evolving and repetitive issue across the world today. Attacks across businesses and different personnel are becoming more complex and frequent which is why the risk is extremely high in today society. A study at the University of Maryland is one of the “first to quantify the near-constant rate of hacker attacks of computers with Internet access which was found on average every 39 seconds” (Cybersecurity). This means 15 different people or companies are at risk to a digital attack every 10 minutes. These attacks can be along of the lines of a password hack, APT’s, phishing, etc. This should be extremely alarming and should create some type of fear and grab the attention of everybody. Cybersecurity is the answer to protecting and preventing different systems and data from attacks which is why I am extremely interested in cybersecurity technology. I believe my certain skill sets and traits that I can bring to this field could be utilized to help protect and reduce the number of cyber-attacks every day. My problem-solving skills, desire to learn and my hard work ethic could be key traits that could allow me to understand and excel within the cybersecurity technology work field. A cybersecurity workforce study in 2019 found that there was a “global shortage of cybersecurity professionals of about 2.9 million in 2018” (Shimon, Brathwaite). This could be another reason why the risk of a cyberattack is so high today, there is not enough reinforcement. Cyber criminals are evolving and increasing quick, along with their hacking techniques. The cyber-attacks within the last few years have been extremely overwhelming and dangerous for our future, making this specific work field more critical than ever. If we don’t react precise and quickly, the future of cyberattacks will continuously increase and everyone will be at risk of an attack.
