Hands On #1

We were asked to design a network for a temporary office that must support 8 desktop PC users, one server, and one printer. All of the equipment must fit into a 24′ x 40′ room (use the floor plan of the attached diagram). we could arrange the desktops and equipment any way we want but had to ensure that the users would have enough space to sit and walk to the printer without bumping into each other and not have to walk over any cables.

We had to use these 5 port switches for this exercise: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-ProSafe-Gigabit-Ethernet-Desktop/dp/B0000BVYT3/. We could choose any length of these pre-connectorized patch cables to connect the hosts and switches together: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-5-Pack-Snagless-Ethernet/dp/B00C2BJ664/.

Note: We had to allow enough cable to plug into a desktop/printer/server, run along the wall or down to the floor, and again plug into the switch.
