Four Ethical Issues when Storing Individuals Information

There are many ethical issues thats can happen when storing an individuals information electronically. This opens a gateway for the information to be hacked and potentially exposed to the public. Some of the ethical issues that can take place are Not telling customers about data breaches that impacts their personal information, keeping a person’s information longer than needed, selling information to third party companies for money and inappropriate use of the data. This type of lack in ethical professionalism can cause a negative impact on the companies reputation. Companies should alert their employees on clear ethical codes on ways they should act within the business when it comes to storing people information. An example of an ethical issue could be the release of someones social security number. This puts the person at high risk for identity theft and this could cause them to lose their job and assets. After something like this taking place, it can take forever for them to get their life back on track. Another example of an ethical issue could be someones address getting put out. This could lead the person to feel violated and unsafe. It also puts them and their family in harms way and at risk of harassment from the public.
