In society today technology is much more advanced than back in the day. These advancements has also changed the relationship between offenders and victims. In the past crimes would be committed with the offender and victim being face to face. For example, theft back in the day would be a person taking something of someones without their permission without the use of force. This crime makes it hard for people to want to be alone without the worry of being a victim to theft. Now that we have such high tech computers and etc, it is easier for crimes such as theft to be committed behind a screen with the same impact. For example, if someone were to steal a companies information and sell it for money that would still be considered theft. Also regardless of the crime being committed behind a screen or not, it is still punished the same way. Technology has also changed the awareness of being victimized. Some people has been a victim and not even know until weeks after the crime. When crimes are committed in person, the victim could easily pick out who it was but with technology that is impossible. We also can’t forget how technology has helped people not become a victim with the creation of cyber security. This has caused it to be harder for cyber crimes to take place.
