The program in total will be no more than one and a half hours long. It is absolutely imperative to keep this program action-packed, and short and sweet in order to not lose the attention of these children. The program will start at 6:00 PM on Thursdays and Fridays and only last until 7:30. The night will be introduced by one of my helpers and the students and families will be told the purpose of the night. There will be some brief instruction explaining how to move about the space for maximal learning. There will be volunteers in the community near the “library stations” to explain to the children in an engaging way. After thirty minutes of this, everyone will be filed into the auditorium and seated to hear Remica Bingham-Risher read the Faulkner story, explain it and ask the kids questions about it, and then do the same for her work. At 7:15 (45 minutes after the start of the reading time) the children will be able to ask questions of Mrs. Bingham-Risher. The night will then be concluded. All of the money donated will go toward paying Mrs. Bingham-Risher for her time and effort.

Every week, the portion of Room Swept Home will change, as well as the historical pieces in the other room provided by the associated libraries. This will keep the program feeling fresh and create returning participants week after week, thus maintaining interest and an environment of friendship. Having individuals returning to see others that they have interacted with before, will create a sense of community that could be hugely beneficial to all.
