How do engineers make cyber networks safer?
Engineers operate various machines and different engineering systems. We have to protect the programs that run the software in our power plants and transportations systems. To keep everyone safe and the world running like a clock our networks need to be kept safe from deviant and all cybercrime attacks. There are various types of engineering systems in our world. Thousands upon thousands of networks, telecommunications lines, the entire worlds electrical system, the structure of how are water, gas, and oil is distributed and manufactured. Take a moment to picture even where are electricity comes from, you have your lets say the character Homer who works at the Nuclear Power Plant it uses uranium cores to make nuclear fusion through the reaction process within the core of they reactor. In order to function and no have a meltdown water is pumped through the cores of uranium to keep pressure and heat from getting to high. The water is brought in through pipelines from a dam or water treatment facility which is ran on electricity and the water comes from the ocean, lakes, sewage etc. Our electricity is then sent through sub stations and ran through wires or in the ground to our homes. Then we use electricity for our device. Now what controls the power plants, substations, water treatment plants? The answers is technology and humans, various software’s and code are written to protect such technology and operate it. Security and safety is key, just like you wouldn’t leave your door unlocked at night a simple password or firewall will not stop a hacker, virus or malware from corrupting and causing havoc. Cyber technology has greatly impacted our engineering systems and our everyday lives. Cybercrime will always be around as technology continues to grow. There will always be a way to stop Cybercrime unless Cyberdyne events Skynet.
