1.     What are the connections between the disciplines addressing entrepreneurship at ODU?

I believe that there are many connections between disciplines. One example is computer science and business. My major relies heavily on business and requires using theories and ideas that can work for both fields. I think ODU teaches us that entrepreneurship can be associated with and utilized by every discipline.

2.     Is entrepreneurship an art or science?

I believe it can be both. I think that entrepreneurship can be addressed using either or both disciplines and probably should. I think the best innovations utilize both aspects to create the best product possible. For example, apple utilizes cutting-edge technology to produce the best iPhone, but also relies on art to make it look appealing to the consumer.

3.     How is failure good?

Failure is good. Failure is a very important teacher. We find out what works and what doesn’t work, and we learn to make adjustments as a result. By learning from our failures, we improve our future attempts that may even exceed our expectations.

4.     What have I learned from failing?

I have learned many things from failure. My favorite sport is baseball, and they often refer to it as the sport of failure. It’s the only sport where you can do something 3 out of 10 times and find success. You are expected to fail frequently, and you will. It’s how we recover from those failures that matter. I have had to make many adjustments because of failure but ultimately; they have made me a better person as a result.

5.     What ethical issues might arise related to what I am working on?

In the field of cyber security and computer science, one of the main ethical issues is the idea of utilizing technology to spy on people. Being able to mine users’ data and then sell such data to other companies. This is a serious growing issue that affects millions of people across the globe. Many people have had their information stolen as a result of data mining and had no idea. Privacy is a serious issue online and one that is not easily solved.
