My three professional goals that I hope to achieve by the end of this internship is understanding ethical standards and professionalism, mastering behavior analysis techniques, and improving communication and collaborating skills.

The first goal understanding ethical standards and professionalism, I believe is an important take away from any job. Working in a hospital setting I would have to follow HIPPA to protect patients information and autonomy. I will achieve this by learning how to document in patients chart and communicating with doctors about patients treatment. At this internship site I will also become CPR certified after my first week of training.

The next goal is to learn behavior analysis techniques at the state hospital as it is a combination of patients with mental illness, intellect, and developmental disabilities. I will gain knowledge of how positive reinforcement and other skills works with individuals to help rehabilitate them back into the community.

The last goal I have is to improve communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. This includes understanding and applying strategies for both verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as providing clear updates and progress reports.
