Discussion Board: The NIST Cybersecurity Framework
Hello class, one of the benefits of using the framework is that a company or organization will be able to measure and assign the risk of a cyber security attack. They will be able to put a dollar amount to what the cost would look like. Using the NIST framework would allow the company to be able to go back to its investors and byers with a plan to help identify risk. Companies when investing money want to know that that their investments are safe. Self- assessments are a good way to realistically understand what is needed.
My future workplace hopefully will be in research and data collection and confidential information be something I encounter daily. I would use the framework to come up with innovative ideas and ways to help prevent or limit the risk. I think that with technology and how creative people have gotten, we will have to think like they think and move like they move to stay ahead. The impact of a large-scale attack and leaking of information can cripple a company financially and impact its credibility.
DISCUSSION BOARD: Protecting Availability
Hello Class, If I was the CISCO of a publicly traded company I would start of by training and make sure the team understood the company’s security program and checking to see if we are incompliance.
The second protection that I would put in place after I identify gaps in the current policy, would be to install firewalls. A firewall is a software program that can help by blocking outsiders from gaining access to private data on computer and it can also block viruses that infect your computer like malware or spyware.
Designing the Public Sphere: Information Technologies and the Politics of Mediation
How should markets, businesses, groups, and individuals be regulated or limited differently in the face of diminishing state power and the intelligification and networking of the material world?
In the face of diminishing state power and the intelligification and networking of the material world markets, business, groups and individuals will have to learn how to accept the changes and find ways to work together. The focus should not be on the process of determining new or emerging technology or against existing or competing technologies but more on how human interactions and technology can work together. This reminds me of the movie my mom used to watch when I was younger called the Terminator”. When machines/technology tried to take over and how humans fought back and started the “Resistance”. You must know where to draw the line and what is ethical and what is not. Glasses that can scan a person and give up all information without the person on the other end knowing… is a little too much. I agree that we need to have ways to regulate but as technology changes, the way we interact or monitor also needs to change. Its’s a thin line and kind of scary technology if in the wrong hands and finding the right human-tech relations will take a lot of collaborations. Just my thoughts.
