The components of a business are a complex format but, depending on the company the components can differ. The question is where does the IT department fit into this format when looking at a company. 

What are the Components of a Business?

The main components of a business are; the CEO, operations, marketing, sales, finance, and HR. But, what are the other components of a business that are not as talked about? Well, every business has a technology department, a strategic planning department, and someone who is always researching the product the company produces. 

Where Do These Components Fit Into the Business?

A technology department would fit best in my opinion under the operations side of the company because technology is becoming a huge aspect in every company so, having them in the operations side makes the most sense because they are needed to help operate the companies. I think that strategic planning would fall under the marketing side of things because, this part of the company is what is helping their product get out more and the main job of a strategic planner is planning on how they are going to increase profits. I think the same thing goes for the researchers in the company with them falling under the marketing department because they are researching how to improve the products in the company.

Where does IT fit into an organization?

In my opinion the IT department would be a best fit in either the operations department or in its own department. The reason I say this department can fit best in the operations department is because they are the people who are helping the company run everyday and keep everything in control. Another department that they could fit into is just to make their own department. I say this because the department is growing every year in most businesses because of the new worries with security and most things moving online. So, with having their own department it could make things easier for the company.

What Are The Roles and Responsibilities Within IT?

Within the IT department there are many roles and responsibilities throughout the department. Starting from the top there is the CIO position who is in charge of the whole department. Then moving down the line we have the managers and engineers whose main responsibility is if anything goes wrong they are the ones who are responsible for fixing it. Then we have the cyber security and IT help desk, their roles are to be able to help anyone out in the company when security breaches happen. So, looking at the department as a whole it comes with many responsibilities and roles. 

How Should IT Itself be Organized? 

I think that the IT department should be organized in a strategic way to where the whole company flows together. It would start with the head people of the company like the CEO who is in charge of all the departments. I would then break it down into the CIO who is in charge of solely the IT department. After that I would bunch everything together because all the people below those two positions should be working together to keep the company running smoothly. 

Conclusion

To conclude, this component of a business write up focuses on how the IT department fits into all of the aspects of a company and what is needed from all of the other departments to help the business run smoothly and without any issues.
