Like most things in life, technology such as computers have a pros and cons that impact today’s society. Over the last few decades, computers have enabled us to move forward and advance in society by allowing us to accomplish things that were not feasible in the past when there was little to no technology. For instance, we are now able to access lots of information in a much easier way, primarily through the Internet. Things such as movies, books, photos, videos, articles, newspapers, and more can easily be found and accessed on the Internet through the use of computers. Another big advantage that computers have given us is the ability to communicate with many different people from all over the world, such as through email, video meetings/messaging, and social media platforms. Computers have also allowed people from different parts of the globe to be able to learn about other cultures, religions, and traditions that they might not be familiar with, all from the comfort of their own home, which can be viewed as a more safer option than flying to a country of interest in person. Computers have also lead to the advancement of security, such as verifying the identity of a person through the use of fingerprints (biometric authentication), surveillance, and encryption. With the measures, computers have helped many organizations/businesses to enhance their level of security and protect themselves from cyber attacks/threats, cybercrimes, and cyber criminals like hackers. However, while computers bring many benefits for society today, they also bring more issues to light. For instance, cybercrime is now on the rise due to the advancement of technology and the use of computers, including identity/data theft, hacking, scamming, phishing, and more. Because of the increasing reliance on computers, this has left us more vulnerable to the risk of being attacked within the cyberspace. Computers have also raised concerns about the level of privacy they can provide due to the large risk of personal information of people being stolen.
