Assignment Takeaway
ATA 4:
I used this image to represent the woman in Saudi Arabian women by using a picture of a shampoo ad. It was difficult finding pictures of Saudi Arabian women in commercials because they have little to no rights in this country.
This assignment was a little difficult for me to complete because it was hard to find supporting facts to put in my paper. The advertisement pictures were a challenge to find also because I barely could find the images to include in my assignment. I decided to choose images of women who are in different environments. Two women are in their cars, but the other ones are spending time with their significant others. I didn’t like this assignment at all because it was hard to find sources on Saudi Arabian living. I couldn’t find enough sources that described the lives of Saudi Arabian women.
I am aware of the indifferences between America and Saudi Arabia. The women and men in Saudi Arabia dress completely different from each other. The women are fully covered, except for their face and hands. I am completely flabbergasted by women being over-sexualized in America, especially in advertisements. In Saudi Arabia, women are inferior to men, and they have no rights. They have to get permission from their husbands or fathers if they are not married to do certain things like traveling. They are not allowed to drive at all, which I thought was very interesting. Women in America and Saudi Arabia, face negative stereotypes, but Saudi Arabian women are more modest and dress as such.
ATA3:
I used this image to represent one of the places I would love to visit someday Rome, Italy. This image shows how beautiful this country is and also shows some of its unique architecture.
Assignment 3 is a little different from the previous work. The format for this assignment was different, as well. We were asked to analyze a blog of our choice from the Temple University study abroad program. I chose to write about based upon what I am passionate about, which is Psychology. I chose a blog by Jennifer Hall, and her time in Rome, Italy. I skimmed through the first page of the blog and came across Ghana. Immediately, I knew what I was going to analyze within the blog. What was surprising is the blog was in video format, so it was a vlog. I related a lot to Jennifer and wanted her video to be longer than it was. Her video was cut short due to the pandemic that swept across the world.
What I enjoyed the most about Jennifer’s blog is that it was in video format, and she discussed how she felt being the only African American in the program. I liked how she also said not to let that stop you from studying abroad. I wished I could have seen more about Rome, but from what I did see I would definitely like to visit someday. I would like to study abroad in Rome, Italy or even Africa would also be a good place to study abroad.
ATA2: After reading Robert Khol’s work about the “Values Americans Live By”. I started to look back on my life and think about the way I approach situations. I grew up on “the truth will set you free” is the way I live my life. This quote is what I live by on a day to day basis. I always tell the truth, no matter the situation, but I’m not rude about it even if it’s negative. I learned that when you lie that you will have to keep up with that lie. It takes a lot of energy to lie to someone. Most people tend to be honest when it comes to sharing personal information.
I think that other countries’ values are different because not everyone tells the truth, even people in America. Some counties do not value telling the truth because they don’t want their image tarnished in any way. Those Individuals from different countries always want to look innocent snd polished, so they tend to lie because they fear judgment.
