After answering the 9 questions my score was 0 out of 9, with 0 being the healthier way of seeing social media. The items on the scale are preoccupation, tolerance, withdrawal, persistence, displacement, problems, deception, escape, and conflict. I think these are areas that can be affected by a variety of things, and it is a good scale to measure social media disorders. When people lose focus on what is important and start comparing their lives to others, it is a sign that the person needs help. Social media use can help connect people from all over the world, but once it starts interfering with people’s lives, families, and work, it has become a problem that needs to be addressed and sought help.
The differences around the world are notable thanks to their culture and subcultures. In places like the USA social media is a must, and children are given access to it from an early age. In other places around the world socialization face to face is important, families come together for meals, and television, the internet, and games are only a part of their lives, but not the center of it. This kind of balance is necessary to have good mental health and a happier life.
