I’ve always been interested in technology especially when it comes to computers and how they work. When I was in high school I started to explore my interests especially when it comes to preparing for college cybersecurity caught my eye so I started doing more research. When I researched I found things about cyberattacks against companies and it made me interested in the technology used to prevent cyberattacks like having network security. Another reason why I was interested in cybersecurity technology is that I took computer classes before I went to college and I wanted to continue to learn about cybersecurity and computers which is why I switched my major to cybersecurity when I started at ODU. I was also interested in how things like being able to learn about cyber threats such as malware, viruses, and phishing cause problems to systems and I wanted to learn about methods to prevent those cyberattacks.

Computer and Information Science: This major relates to cybersecurity because it is the study of computers and computing which cybersecurity plays an important part in this major because computers need to have cybersecurity in order to protect important data from cybercriminals. It also relates to cybersecurity because in order to learn about computers you would also have to learn about cybersecurity because it is a subset of computer and information science.

Computer engineering:

Computer engineering is related to cybersecurity because when learning about computers it is also important to learn about computer security which is where cybersecurity comes into play. It is also related to cybersecurity because it is important for security programs to be in computers and in fact computer engineering

Criminology:

Criminology can be related to cybersecurity because it is the study of crime and it is important to learn about different types of crime especially cybercrime which is a topic covered in cybersecurity.

It can also be related cybersecurity would be beneficial to know especially when it comes to computer crimes and it is also beneficial to have some experience in cybersecurity even if you are a Criminology major.

Finance:

Finance and Cybersecurity are related because the financial sector has to deal with cybercrime like fraud and cybersecurity could help implement ways to prevent cyberattacks that could steal sensitive data like user information like credit card numbers.
