Lab Preparation:
• For students who are using Windows Laptop/Desktop, you can choose to complete the assignment
locally. You can download the required lab files from Canvas (“M6 – Lab files.zip”).
• [Mac User Only] Access a Windows VM named “ODU Labs General” in the group “ODU General
Labs WorkSpace” on ODU MoVE (move.odu.edu). This VM provides you the Internet access, so you can download/upload files to Canvas.
You need to use steghide, not s-tool to complete this assignment. Your local path may be different
depends on the folder where you extract the executable file. Make sure you are working on the right
directory.
1. Create a text file containing the answers to the following questions:
• What are your name and current date and timestamp?
• What is your expected grade in this course? B
2. Use steghide to hide this text file in the cover image, ” monarch.bmp.”
• Use your own UIN as the password for encryption, for example, 01000123.
• Use your Midas ID (all lowercase) as the name of the STEGO file, for example
(“pjian123.bmp”).
3. Upload the STEGO file (“pjian123.bmp”) on Canvas. A python script will be used to extract and
read your secret message automatically. A grade of zero will be provided if it fails to extract the
secret message due to the wrong name or password provided in your submission.
