My experience in Dr. Shaik’s course was very eye-opening. I had an opportunity to examine, in depth, cultural differences that impact individuals and families in our world.

  • We did an advocacy project centered around George Floyd, and a cultural interview paper, but the best thing I did was the extra credit assignment focused on Disparities in Incarceration. The research I did for this assignment completely changed the way I viewed an entire political party based on hard evidence found in statistical data contrary to popular opinion.
  • I learned that if I see something that is skewed dramatically, to research and investigate. This will help you uncover truths and make life-changing decisions that may solely be based on misinformed historicity.
  • Skills that I further developed were to analyze quantitative data and make decisions. I was strongly convicted after reviewing the data for myself, then I was able to make decisions and share my findings with others.
  • This experience ties into my future plans by doing research and becoming active on matters that make a difference in the lives of people from all cultures and socioeconomic groups.
