I am interested in the cybersecurity program, as we interact with cybertechnology every day, from our phones, computers, tablets, even things as simple as e-readers such as Kindles, and apple watches. I find it fascinating how such a complex technological mind can be in such small devices. I am also interested in how I can better understand cybersecurity, how to better protect my devices and the varying aspects of cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity intersects many different aspects of life and many different careers. Cybersecurity is even interrelated to many, if not all of the courses offered here at ODU. The first course I found that cybersecurity relates to is nuclear medicine technology. This course is related to cybersecurity as the types of devices that nuclear medicine technologists utilize are run on very secure medical networks.

A second course offered by ODU that relates to cybersecurity is criminal justice. The interrelation between cybersecurity and criminal justice is huge, as cybercrimes are handled by the different divisions of criminal justice (such as police officers, and other officiators of the law).

A third course that is offered by ODU that is interrelated to cybersecurity is education. The protection of student’s confidential information such as demographical information, to grades, and designated “pick-up/drop-off” consents are all important data that must be safely safeguarded as schools utilize the internet.

A fourth and the last course to be discussed, that is related to cybersecurity is real estate. Real estate investors and realtors are in possession of important and private client information such as account numbers, debit/credit card information, banking information, and crucial personal information such as social security numbers. This is related to cybersecurity, as they need to make sure that all of the client’s information is encrypted, protected, and that their devices are protected from the varying types of cybersecurity attacks and risks.
