How has cybersecurity created opportunities for workplace deviance?

Workplace deviance occurs when an employee voluntarily acts in a way that can harm a company, it’s employees, and the productivity of the company. Cybersecurity has created more opportunities for workplace deviance to occur, as the harmful actions are much more easily committed online versus in person. With the creation of more effective security measures, there are those who know how to dismantle, and/or break into said measures for their own personal gain, or to destroy something or someone else. Along with more advancements in technology, there are ways to be hidden behind security measures such as a VPN, which would make tracing the perpetrator much more difficult. Some examples of a workplace deviated attack, could be a disgruntled employee using certain information to “take down” the workplace. Another could be an employee using personal employee identifying information to open up different financial accounts for personal monetary gain. An employee could also use a company’s credit card, for personal spending, or maybe even hacking into the companies network in order to shut the company down. There are various ways that workplace deviance can occur, and it’s up to each individual company to be vigilant of both whom they hire and how their employee’s are utilizing company technology/information.
