The impact of cybertechnology and the world of crime and crime victimization has increased. With the continuous advances in technology, means that there are more advanced and effective ways for criminals to commit these crimes. The internet gives criminals an advantage in committing crimes on potential victims as it allows for these criminals to commit these crimes while keeping their anonymity. Anonymity is important to a criminal, as it can protect them from being detected, apprehended, and persecuted for the varying crimes that they commit. This is dangerous, and unfortunate, as victims may not be able to determine where the cybercriminal is, and how they received their information. Not only can the criminals commit more crimes with their anonymity, but they can also become increasingly more aggressive in their attacks, as they have not faced any repercussions for their crimes. The internet has also made crimes more easily accessible to commit, as they can use varying types of cyberattacks, all while being in a different location from the victim. With the creation of cybertechnology, criminals are able to reach more numbers of victims more quickly than committing physical crimes as well.
We can approach the development of cyber policy and infrastructure by having a risk management approach by focusing on the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks. This process should be a continuous approach, and cyber technology is consistently changing. We should also emphasize having and creating strong relationships between different organizations, as we can share information, and respond as a collective group to cybersecurity threats. We should also emphasize the development of policies that prioritize cybersecurity policies in everyday work activities.
It is also critical that we invest in the continuous advancement of cyber technology research and development as it can also help us to improve/create ways to better manage/mitigate cybersecurity threats.
