As a Cybersecurity major it is easy to explain how my major relates to cybersecurity technology. It is more of a challenge to explain my interest in cybersecurity. Technology has always been a part of my life. I always had an interest in how things worked. I was very young when I got my first computer and I immediately loved it. I would play the popular game Roblox for hours a day and became very interested in the exploits of the game. I would soon learn to use these exploits as well. I joined many forums and immersed myself in this world of Roblox “hacking.” Downloading these programs was a danger that I was completely oblivious to and I soon learned that lesson. Through downloading these exploit programs, I had slowly been infecting my computer with viruses. My computer eventually needed to be completely reset. This was the first time I became familiar with the concept of cybersecurity. Throughout my time in high school I took several computer science classes and I fell in love. Through Roblox I had learned to code in Lua but Java was different. Lua is a language with its own function but it is very limited in the scope of Roblox. With Java however, I felt like I could create anything. I found myself motivated to go above and beyond with every assignment. Computer science became a true passion of mine in high school. Coming from a military background and living in Washington DC through most of high school, cybersecurity came to mind first. I felt that cybersecurity would give me an interesting career and a stable one. Cybersecurity is a growing field that I felt I could do well in so I decided to pursue it. I chose cybersecurity as a major because it felt natural to me.
