Four other majors that I came up with were Criminal Justice, Business, Computer Science, and Information Systems and Technology. Criminal Justice relates to cybersecurity because cyber crimes are a rising issue. Many crimes are committed every day online and with a field such as Criminal Justice there is a need for cybersecurity. Cyber crime is only just beginning in the grand scheme and must be combatted at every step. Business and cybersecurity are heavily interconnected. The entire NIST Framework is directed towards businesses. Businesses must be aware of their cybersecurity to ensure that critical operations can remain consistent. Almost all businesses need cybersecurity to survive and operate. A working knowledge of cybersecurity can greatly benefit business majors in their future endeavors. Computer science is one of the core pillars of cybersecurity and in return cybersecurity is important in computer science. At the advanced level, software should always include some sort of security. To maximize that security, a working knowledge of cybersecurity practices is imperative to a software developer. IT majors must have knowledge of cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is a massive part of many businesses and IT personnel are most on hands with technology in the daily workings of the businesses. IT personnel must know the basics of cybersecurity and the related technology in order to properly do their job. Past these four majors, there are hundreds of careers and associated majors that involve cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is more than a career. It is a pillar of modern business and technology that has an application in almost every facet of modern life. There are almost no careers today that do not involve cybersecurity at some level. Cybersecurity relates in some way to every major at ODU. The reach of cybersecurity is not properly appreciated and without it, modern technological life could not exist in the form that it does.
