Computers have made the world so much safer in so many ways, but computers have also made the world more complicated and dangerous at the same time. One way computers have made the world safer is in manufacturing. Manufacturing has been a dangerous career path for centuries. Workers have been worked to death and mangled by heavy machinery in factories since the industrial revolution. This unfortunate side of manufacturing has lasted into today’s factories, but with computers, that is slowly changing. Implementing computerized safety systems and even robotic assembly tools allows for a safer workplace. Modern computer technology has once again revolutionized manufacturing in a way that makes it safer than it has ever been. Another way that computers have made the world safer is the availability of information. The world previously relied on word of mouth spread of information and news and that simply is not safe. At a user’s fingertips is a seemingly infinite wealth of information. This can allow people to research actions that previously could be unknowingly dangerous. People are able to more safely and independently operate in their daily operations due to this massive wealth of information that exists due to computers. Similarly, the internet has made the world a more dangerous place. The internet provides a medium for crime and general wrongdoing that did not previously exist. Before the internet, crime had to remain localized to the criminal. This does not apply to cyber crime and that means that crime is more accessible through the internet. The dark web has become home to many violent and illegal criminal operations that would not exist without the internet. It can be argued that these things would exist without the internet and the internet simply provides a platform. This platform can be used to expose these operations and actually make the world safer. The world is generally a safer and more importantly a more connected place than ever before in history.
