Learning Style

EVALUATE YOUR STUDY HABITS:

For each of my classes I absolutely have to take notes; whether it’s from the assigned readings, the PowerPoints, or just summarizing what my professor is saying I have to be able to go back and read what was said so I can be able to recite it. I don’t use any specific techniques outside of class. I stick to the traditional ways of studying and I don’t change it, but I am trying to find new ways that could work and improve my way of learning. One class that I am doing well in would be Sociology. To be honest I love the class it’s extremely interesting learning about the sociological imagination and how different cultures interact. The best way that I study for this class is by reading the assigned chapters and by taking the practice quizzes which are extremely helpful.

IDENTIFYING AND APPLYING NEW LEARNING TECHNIQUES:

The only class that I am not doing the best in would be Chemistry 106N. In trying to fix my understanding of the class, me and a few of my other classmates made a group chat therefore, if one of us are having a hard time understanding a piece of information the others can help out. With this class being the most challenging I plan to spend at least 3 hours studying and picturing the way the labs are supposed to be set up in my head. The main aspects of the course that I should spend the most time on would be the Pre-labs and the lab reports because they are the most important in my opinion and if I don’t understand something I will ask my instructor for some feedback. As of right now I know I am not taking full advantage of my learning supports because I should most definitely try to get a chemistry tutor but I am trying to wait it out just to see if I can comprehend it on my own first. With knowing the extent of my career goals and dreams, my motivation is always there because I know I don’t want to disappoint myself or my family since I am the first to go to college. For my labs I need to try to go into more detail and with any wrong answer I need to again ask for feedback and see what exactly I need to focus working on. One new technique I could use while in class would be “Stay Engaged and Communicate Often.” Most of the time in class I don’t talk as often as I should simply because I second guess my answer majority of the time and I hate saying the wrong answer. But I have to get over that or else I will not better my learning. One technique I could use outside of class would be creating visualizations. Since I am more of a visual learner I think this would create a great affect for me with my school work.
