Malware Infections in the U.S. during the COVID-19 Pandemic: An Empirical Study

The reviews should focus on

(1) how the topic relates to the principles of the social sciences

(2) the study’s research questions or hypotheses

(3) the types of research methods used

(4) the types of data and analysis done

(5) how concepts discussed in class relate to the article

 (5) how the topic relates to the challenges, concerns, and contributions of marginalized groups, and

(6) the overall contributions of the studies to society.

Social sciences utilize psychology, sociology, and economics which in most cases is the study of society. The scientific method frequently applied to social science, allows individuals to have a variety of tools and techniques to collect and analyze data. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected society in a positive and extremely negative way. Many individuals were forced to learn how to adapt to a new way of learning and living using even more technology. This significantly challenged the technology that society was currently using and developing. Many software’s that was brought to light when the pandemic first hit was in the process of being discovered. Many software’s and apps were still under testing for security and functionality to the point where it made a lot of information vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Due to the increase in use of computer, tablets, and smartphones, communication have become seemingly easier, although it increased the field of cybercrime. COVID-19 made society depend on technology significantly continuing the inflation rates of cybercrime. There are three categories that scientific research projects can be grouped in such as exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory. These categories will be assigned to the data gathered depending on the purpose of research.

The principles of social science are a term for the study of any scientific study of people and society. It includes five major branches such as: Anthropology- the study of humanity; Sociology- the study of social structure and behavior; Psychology- the study of the mind and behavior; Political Science- study of politics; Economics- study of the distribution of goods and services within an economy. COVID-19 have increased the of technology resulting into frequent use of apps that have permission to important information. The topic relates to the principles of social science. Researchers collect data of Internet activity and compare it to the past years rate of cyber-attacks toward individuals and companies. Currently researchers are seeking to explore cyber-crime trends, particularly malware infections that occurred and still is occurring in the COVID-19 pandemic.

This study examines the relationship between the number of malware infections, COVID-19 positive cases, closed non-essential businesses, and closed K-12 public schools in the United States. Researchers utilized methods such as, recording data, Measurements of the dependent and independent variables to evaluate the relationships to see how they relate to one another. All models were estimated using the analytic method. This topic will seemingly raise a huge concern very soon to individuals when researchers release more data of how malware infections can affect an individual just by using any technology.
