With the advancement and integration of technology and cyber sciences, society has reaped many benefits that have added a plethora of conveniences and quality to our daily lives and the way we communicate, shop, travel, almost anything you can think of. Unfortunately, with the pros also comes the cons. Hackers and cyber criminals are also growing and developing new methods to breach databases and expose consumer data to use in nefarious ways. A glance at PrivacyRights.org <\/em>shows chronological data breaches ranging from the healthcare industry all the way to banking. Observing this data regarding the social sciences and cybersecurity, one might ask, \u201cWhat can be learned from this data, and what branches of the social sciences stands to benefit the most from this information?\u201d. I think the branches that would benefit the most are education, history, and psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Education in the social sciences and cyber world focuses on developing and learning new methods and curriculum to teach digital literacy and awareness. With the information and data provided on the website, we see that multiple industries are affected. Education can be modified and enhanced across the board to teach employees, supervisors, and top officials in each industry better cyber hygiene and how to better recognize phishing attempts or shady activity in addition to creating checklists or mandatory trainings to help combat breaches. Also, cyber security professionals employed by said companies could look at the data and implement new methods and defensive layers to better protect data systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Next is history. I say history to analyze the available chronological data and cases available on PrivacyRights.org to study said cases and the means to how the breach occurred to learn from the incident and take the appropriate measures to ensure it doesn\u2019t happen again and to get ahead of any other lessons learned from the incident as we do with history in all fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lastly, psychology can stand to benefit from the data available. I say psychology because a study of the cases may allow us to identify trends, motivations, and a why. If we understand the psychological factors, attitudes, or influences of hackers, cyber frameworks, law, and ethics can be modified to change things that influence the decisions of hackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Technology will continue to grow and with the rapid development of said technology and things like artificial intelligence, criminals will continue to utilize it for wrongdoing.
