I think that hacker-themed movies portray a false stereotype of cybersecurity. Cybersecurity, as a career field and industry, is not just about people hacking other people and where they get tons of information and money. Movies like Mr. Robot, for example, portray cybersecurity through the wrong lens. Cybersecurity is complex and it has different areas and specialties that humans can delve into. Granted, cybersecurity can a cool and fun career choice to get into, but we should never think that it is just about hacking. Additionally, a lot of people state that they wish to enter into the cybersecurity career field, but they really don’t have the right perspective about what the career field is really like. They believe that the career field is fun and very engaging, but they don’t really understand that it can be very stressful and tedious. The truth of the matter is that cybersecurity is just like any other career field. Additionally, the media portrays cybersecurity as a field that anyone can get into as a career choice. This is far from the truth. Cybersecurity is one of the most difficult career fields to enter into. There are even IT professionals that have difficulty getting into the career field because of how competitive the entry-level roles are.
