My Major

You must include: what major you are pursuing, why you chose that major and if you have any experience in that field

My intended major is Nursing.

Being a nurse within a community is not only important, but also very fulfilling. I have always been surrounded by people within the medical field, whether they be my family members or important adults in my life, and I have always found that nurses were always the kindest.

My grandmother is a nurse, 3 of my uncles are nurses, and 4 of my aunts are nurses. There were other medical professions in my family, like a therapist and a doctor, but I have always found that the nursing part of my family is always the brightest and kindest. Their hearts were always so big they always looked so happy with their lives, and seeing that as a child made me want to be just like them.

As many people know, there is a stereotype that all Filipinos are nurses, so I tried to steer clear of choosing nursing as my profession for sometime, but I always came back to nursing. Every profession that I had interest in had involved helping people. One time I wanted to be apart of the Peace Corp., another time I wanted to be in the military, but I never quite stuck with them like I did nursing. Being a nurse would mean that I could help people just like I’ve always wanted to. I acknowledge that there will be ups and downs, but what job doesn’t have that?

Even though I have no experience within the nursing field, or any medical field for that matter, I know that this is what I want to do with my life.
