Integrative Learning
I did not necessarily have any expectations for this learning community because of it being a newer course. I did think that there would be more interaction between the group members and faculty. I also expected that there were going to be assignments that required me to connect what I have learned in all my courses…this expectation was definitely met! There was a fair amount of interaction between the faculty, my group members, and I. If I had the chance to take the class over again I would try to be more interactive with everyone especially my faculty team leader. In other subjects, some examples of how my learning was integrated from this course to another would be in Journal Assignment 3, it was required for the student to write APA tips and all of the tips applied to each of the courses. Another example would be Journal Assignment 10 where I had to combine my knowledge from both my Psychology of Adolescence course and Cross-Cultural Psychology course in order to complete the assignment. While I wouldn’t consider this assignment to be my best work, I would have to say that Exercise 4 in the Psychology of Adolescence course was a great and challenging assignment for me personally. This assignment required me to watch a movie from a previous generation and one from this generation and compare the adolescent themes. Doing this assignment caused me to think outside of the box and pay attention to the movies in detail and relate what I saw on screen to what I read in the textbook. In return, this caused me to gain a better understanding of the material. On another note, I would like to say that I have been blessed with a fantastic group this semester! Every one of my teammates contributed to the group assignments and were excellent in communicating with each other. The members in my group have grown to be comfortable with each other, especially in regard to sharing thoughts and ideas. The aspect of this course that I believe to be the strongest is the connection between the faculty in the psychology department and the students. The communication between the faculty and students is excellent and everyone just seems to be a family in this learning community. One improvement that I would recommend for this course is to have a more diverse selection of assignments, possibly fun, small partner assignments (which would require one to talk with a teammate more often).
